“When the sun shines, it shines on everyone (Filipino proverb).” Barangay Banyuhay Family Day happened over the weekend in Auckland, New Zealand. Bagong Anyo ng Buhay or Banyuhay was a Filipino event to celebrate the spirit of unity and transformation in New Zealand.

It was a visual experience and a vibrant showcase of Filipino heritage, with traditional food, music, dance, and exciting games that brought together generations of Filipinos and our Kiwi friends.” “Banyuhay, meaning transformation, is more than just a name – it’s a symbol of the Filipino journey. From preserving our rich culture to embracing new beginnings here in New Zealand, the day honoured the strength and resilience of our community.”

The day ended with the energetic performance of Kim Chiu, the Chinita Princess, bringing her energy, charm and incredible performances straight to the heart of Filipino-Kiwis. From her chart-topping hits to her iconic dance moves, Kim gave everyone a night full of surprises and nostalgia! Kim Chiu’s first-ever concert in New Zealand was more than just a concert—it was also a celebration of Filipino culture and resilience, a chance to relive the sounds of home while creating new memories here in our new home! It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our Ka-barangays from Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton, and other parts of our beloved country!”

Barangay Banyuhay Family Day wasn’t just an event – it’s where connections deepen, stories are shared, and the bayanihan spirit comes alive. A time where Aotearoa New Zealand meets the heart of the Philippines—making every Filipino feel at home!”
